Glen Burnie High School: 2022 Inductees to be added to their Alumni Wall of Honor

The Glen Burnie High School Alumni Wall of Honor Committee selected three inductees for 2022: Dr. Kendall E. Donaldson, John Gary and James “Ed” DeGrange Jr.


On October 6th at 5:30 PM, these outstanding individuals will be inducted into the Alumni Wall of Honor. The ceremony will be held in the Media Building at Glen Burnie High School. The induction ceremony is always a joyous occasion for everyone in attendance.


The Glen Burnie High School Alumni Wall of Honor Committee announces its 2022 Alumni Wall of Honor role models – those who have achieved success and given back – to inspire current students.



Kendall E. Donaldson, MD, MS


Kendall E. Donaldson, MD, MS graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1988 as class valedictorian. She is a Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology and cornea specialist at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and completed her residency training and cornea fellowship at Bascom Palmer in 2004.

She completed a Master’s degree in anatomy and a certificate program in Management through the Wharton School for Business preparing her to become the Medical Director of the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Plantation in 2004.


She presents over 150 lectures annually on a local, national, and international level and has authored many articles and book chapters. She has received many awards including being one of the top 100 most influential female figures in ophthalmology in 2021 and one of the Top 100 Overall Most Influential Ophthalmologists Worldwide in 2022.



John Gary


John Gary graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1961 before attending both Anne Arundel Community College and the University of Maryland.


John Gary

A distinguished public servant, Gary served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from 1983-1994 before becoming Anne Arundel County’s fifth County Executive from 1994-1998. Gary’s administration grew business in Anne Arundel County and helped shape it into what it is today. During his time in office, he increased county funding for public education, public safety, and essential services.


Gary also served as a Delegate to the Electoral College in 1976 and as a Delegate to the Republican Party National Conventions in 1980, 1984, 1988, and 1992. He received numerous awards and recognitions during his time in public and private life including selection as Man of the Year by the Young Republicans of Anne Arundel County in 1977, as Legislator of the Year by the American Family Association in 1989, and a Presidential Citation from the Maryland Recreation and Parks Association in 1989.



James "Ed" DeGrange Jr.


James “Ed” DeGrange Jr. graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1986 as class valedictorian. He attended the University of Maryland, College Park where he earned a B.S. degree with honors in Electrical Engineering, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Ed was awarded a prestigious National Science Foundation fellowship and attended Stanford University where he earned a Master’s degree.


James "Ed" DeGrange Jr.

Ed spent most of his career in software development for telecommunications systems at Ciena where he has been awarded eight patents for control algorithms. He has since moved into cybersecurity where he manages security operations for Ciena.


Ed also serves on the Board of Directors for the Glen Burnie Mutual Savings Bank. Outside of work, Ed volunteers as a mentor for the first Robotics team at Archbishop Spalding High School, a music minister at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and previously as a Boy Scout Leader.

The Glen Burnie High School Alumni Wall of Honor exists to inspire students by showing the paths former students took, illustrating the possibilities of academic, professional, social choices, and hard work.


The continued efforts of the committee have been made possible by sustaining donors such as Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home PA, and Mrs. Kathleen Collins Browning and Mrs. Dolores Call, private donors.
